Devil's Throat

Devil's Throat in Tilcara

The Devil's Throat is one of the most prominent natural attractions near Tilcara, located approximately 4–8 km east of the town center. The site is characterized by a deep canyon carved by the Huasamayo River over thousands of years, creating steep rock walls and a waterfall around 15 meters high surrounded by colorful mountain scenery.

The visit can be done in two ways: hiking up a 4 km trail with spectacular views or driving along a gravel road to the entrance of the area, allowing you to adapt the experience to your fitness level and available time. Once there, you enter the natural site and walk a final stretch to the waterfall, ideal for photography, connecting with nature, and enjoying the outdoors.

This geological formation combines the force of water, height, light of the Jujuy landscape and an environment that invites tranquility or adventure, and is a very popular excursion for both independent visitors and guided walks.

The Devil's Throat is ideal for walking and light trekking, photography of natural landscapes, a nature experience outside the urban center and proposals combined with horseback riding or guided walks.

It is recommended to bring water, sunscreen, and appropriate footwear. The climb can be challenging in some sections. Typical access hours are from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM, subject to weather conditions and season.

How to get there: approximately 5 km from the center of Tilcara via a passable gravel road; there is also a pedestrian path of about 4 km from the Railway Bridge.
